According to Article 18 of Circular 50/2024/TT-NHNN, credit institutions, foreign bank branches, payment intermediary service providers, and credit information companies must establish processes and documentation to guide the installation and use of Online Banking software and applications.

The guidance for customers on ensuring safety and security when using Online Banking services includes the following:

  • Protecting the confidentiality of passwords, PINs, OTPs, and not sharing devices that store this information;
  • Principles for setting up passwords, PINs, and changing passwords or PINs for electronic transaction accounts;
  • Avoiding the use of public computers to access or perform transactions; not using public Wi-Fi networks when using Online Banking services;
  • Not saving usernames, passwords, or PINs on browsers;
  • Logging out of Online Banking applications when not in use;
  • Identifying and handling certain situations involving fraud, phishing websites, or fake Online Banking applications;
  • Installing all security patches for Mobile Banking applications; considering the installation of anti-malware software and updating the latest malware detection definitions;
  • Choosing transaction verification methods that are secure and suitable for the customer’s transaction limits;
  • Warning customers about risks associated with using Online Banking services;
  • Not using unlocked mobile devices to download and use Online Banking applications or OTP-generating software;
  • Not installing unfamiliar software, unlicensed software, or software from untrusted sources;
  • Promptly reporting any suspicious transactions to the relevant unit;
  • Immediately notifying the unit in cases of loss, theft, damage of OTP-generating devices, fraud, hacking, etc.
